Ron Paul is an advocate of privacy and personal liberty to the citizens of the Unites States. He covers a wide range of categories regarding this issue, including voting against the National ID system that would be potentially printed on all of our drivers licenses to essentially tighten the leash the government has on us and our daily activities. Another is the medical "security" we supposedly have. You may think your information is confidential when you go in to treat your STD (or whatever you have, I'm just using an embarrassing example to help prove my point) but in fact insurance companies and other entities have that access to your personal medical information. Ron Paul would fight against that and help ensure our privacy. But the biggest issue is the privacy stripped from us was derived from the attacks of 9/11. The big whigs implemented the Patriot Act and might as well have adopted the ideals of communism and built large walls around our borders. This is the issue I have been most passionate about since knowing anything about our lovely government. And by lovely I mean a group of adult children that have unlimited sums of money and a God complex. Maybe you are not aware of what all the Rich White Man Act entails. Here are a few fun facts about it to help you sleep at night:
Expanded the federal government’s ability to use wiretaps without judicial oversight;
Allowed nationwide search warrants non-specific to any given location, nor subject to any local judicial oversight;
Made it far easier for the government to monitor private internet usage;
Authorized “sneak and peek” warrants enabling federal authorities to search a person’s home, office, or personal property without that person’s knowledge; and
Required libraries and bookstores to turn over records of books read by their patrons.
I can't help but think HOW IS THIS LEGAL?!?! Is it not a direct contradiction to the constitution in about 40 different ways? I can't believe this Act is still enforced and I can't believe it even passed. And more, I can't believe I have come this far in the blog without typing one cuss word. We have now been trained to live in fear of terrorism. They even made us a really awesome chart that identifies exactly what level of fear we should experience! Remember watching the news and they would have a segment of some asshole with bad hair point to the digital diagram of an arrow pointing in some shade of orange and say with a plastic smile, "Today's terrorist threat level is moderately high! And now, the weather!" And people bought this. And they feared it. And nobody thought to ask "how did they come to this conclusion today?" That's the problem. Our lack of interest and social duty to question our management and get involved with these issues has led to this level of fear. And now you can't even buy a book without some third party analyzing why you bought it and are you a potential hazard to society and when do you leave for work so they can invade your HOME to see what's on your hard drive. Is this ridiculous to anyone else??? Ron Paul thinks so. And he has done everything in his powers to overturn this. I believe we need somebody like him in office to restore confidence in ourselves and our country.
Now, I realize that some people have good intentions for all of this. Some people would utilize this Act to actually prevent another attack. But the further you research our questionable past, the more you realize the intentions the Whigs really have. I suspect this will spark some debate and maybe you think I'm a tool, which is your right and even through all my bitching I can't tell you how happy I am that I still have the right to call the Bush Administration the anti-christ, and you have the right to completely disagree with me.
If you have a minute, go to this link and watch the trailer. It might help you understand what I'm saying:

I understand everyone's issue with "privacy" but when it comes to your insurance company, how do you expect your claims to be paid if the insurance company doesn't know what it's for? Any average joe that claims to be an M.D. or PhD could submit a claim for you for $1000.00 and expect to be paid but why should the insurance company fork out that money for you "just because"?
I used to work for an insurance company and I get calls all day from pissed off people that don't understand why we need to know. There is something call the Health Insurance Portability and Accountabilty Act(HIPAA), if you have been to the doctor recently they should have gone over this with you, bt this is a law that says we have to keep your medical records and personal information confidential. We don't share this with anyone, even your spouse unless you send in written or verbal consent. But expecting the insurance company to pay claims for an unknown diagnosis or procedure is never going to happen. If you don't want people to know you have herpes, practice safely.
Well who is to say average doc doesn't lie about the diagnosis for the 1000 for the average joe anyway? How many people have been busted prescribing oxycontin to addicts, not patients? Even if the insurance company feels they need to know I have herpes (but I don't..haha I swear!), am I suppose to trust that they won't tell anyone? Really? We are on the honor system like in elementary school?? But that was actually a side issue. What my beef is with insurance companies isn't necessarily that they know what I have. Its all the personal information they can obtain from it (credit card numbers, SSN, that kindof thing) and I think policy needs change. I'm not comfortable with the fact that when you or whoever is processing my paperwork you even have the option of seeing my info. Surely there could be a compromise here. Thanks for your input.
Yeah, I see what you mean.. And I'm not sure that you have a good insurance company if they have access to your credit card number.... At our insurance company, you don't send us the premium, it comes from your employer... and you don't mail us payment for your claims, you pay the doctor... so we would have no reason to have your credit card numbers or anything. Another thing most insurance groups have started implementing is the privacy id. We're moving away from the SSN because their are dishonest people, unfortunately, but for the most part we talk to so many people during the day that we could care less about specifics on one single person. As far as the things I have experienced, nobody cares about the info we have on you... you're just another caller wanting to know why your doctor isn't part of the ppo. The only thing I can see is your address and that is so we know where EOBs go, your number so we can call you if we need to, your DOB for obvious reasons, and then your privacy id. The only thing I might be telling my cubicle buddy is that you treated me like crap on the phone, or you were a total flirt. hehe So I see what you mean by wanting to keep your things private but honestly, you are safer than you think. =]
